When the Storm Finally Let Go
While my daughter was at practice, I suddenly found myself with a few unexpected hours to spare, rare and often underestimated pockets of time. The kind you don’t plan for, and usually don’t expect much from.
The rain had been relentless all day, pouring down with the sort of persistence that makes you question even bringing a camera along. My expectations for any worthwhile photography were, to put it mildly, somewhere near sea level.
But then, just like that, the rain stopped.
The clouds lingered, heavy and moody, but the downpour gave way to a quiet stillness. And there it was: a small wooden boat, gently tethered to the dock, resting as if it had been waiting all day for its moment. The water, still carrying traces of the storm, reflected the subdued light in a way that felt almost cinematic.
It’s funny how it works sometimes. You go out with no expectations, and suddenly everything aligns, the light, the subject, the mood. The kind of scene you couldn’t have planned if you tried.
As we like to say: after bad weather comes great photo weather. And this time, it really delivered.
