Lessons from the Coast
Sometimes it’s not just about taking photos, it’s about learning how to give them a life beyond the screen.
During a course focused on fine art printing, I took the opportunity to head out to the coast with my camera. It felt like the perfect combination: learning how to present images properly, while still doing what I enjoy the most, being out there, capturing moments.
The coastline offered its usual mix of simplicity and subtle beauty. Soft colors stretching across the horizon, rocks shaped by time, and water constantly in motion. Nothing dramatic, nothing loud, just quiet scenes that invite you to slow down and look a little longer.
These weren’t the kind of images you chase for awards or headlines. But that was never really the point.
Instead, they became part of something else. A reminder of a few days spent learning, experimenting, and seeing photography from a slightly different perspective. Understanding how an image doesn’t end in the camera, but continues through the process, right down to the final print.
With a bit of luck (and hopefully some newly gained knowledge), I’ll now be able to deliver prints that do justice to the moments I capture and that both I and my clients can truly appreciate.
And these images?
They may not be masterpieces, but they’ve earned their place. Quietly sitting in my library, carrying the memory of a course that was as enjoyable as it was valuable.
